Porter Equipment has announced three models from Hyundai’s latest HX A-series compact tracked excavator line-up have arrived in NZ
They might sit within a compact footprint, but Hyundai’s newly updated HX-A series mini excavators arrive with a ‘features and benefits’ list as long as any larger machine.
Combining powerful performance, standard in-cab technology, and enhanced operator safety, the smallest excavators in Hyundai’s extensive model line-up will still deliver extra muscle for heavy-duty jobs, combined with superior agility for tight spaces.
Porter Equipment national sales manager, Julian Dann, says there is plenty of stock arriving, with the Hyundai HX17AZ available now. The Hyundai HX25AZ, which is available in either cab or canopy configuration, and the Hyundai HX35AZ, will both land in February 2025.
“Z stands for ‘Zero Swing’, so we can now offer three compact zero tail swing excavators with no rear overhang,” says Julian. “This is great for customers, many of whom we know use these machines in tight, urban spaces, as it enhances manoeuvrability and safety, and minimises the risk of damage to surrounding structures.”
While there are extensive updates to the new HX series mini excavators, from engineering advances to new technology and safety features, Julian says a distinct throughline with the three models is the huge emphasis Hyundai has placed on operator comfort.
“These machines are ‘mini’ by name, but certainly not by nature. The factory has really focused on operator comfort and ensuring that an operator won’t be fatigued by long hours in the machines. As a result, it’s like the machines weren’t built to be mini excavators at all: they feature all the ergonomic comfort of much bigger machines,” he says.
Hyundai’s updated HX-A series excavator cabs are roomier than before and feature plenty of convenient storage solutions. They also boast a new 5-inch LCD full-colour display monitor, allowing excavator control settings to be quickly input and the operator to access critical functions and daily operations. The monitor is also IP68 waterproof, which is especially important if working in a canopy model.
“The new Stage 5 engines run quieter, and the cabs are much better insulated against noise. So, combined with the comfier operator seat and the other improvements in the cab, it really doesn’t matter whether you’re doing two hours or 10 in these machines – they’re much better to work on.”
Offering plenty of uninterrupted visibility out, the HX A-Series cabin structure uses integrally welded low-stress, high-strength steel to meet ROPS, TOPS and FOG certification. An integrated anti-theft system includes a password-protected ignition key, to prevent the engine from starting without the correct key. Additionally, there is an optional GPS tracker (via Hyundai’s Hi-Mate remote management system) that allows you to quickly locate the machine in case of theft.
Other standard safety systems onboard the machines include an emergency engine stop switch, a travel alarm, a safety belt, and a work light and beacon lamp. The HX-A machines can also be fitted with an optional rear-view camera, while other features like the auto safety lock which prevents unintentional ignition and machine movement, and the overload warning alarm, are standard.
“The standard features on the machines, right from the 1.8-tonner up, is really impressive. The end result is that you have a small machine that offers plenty of value for money and efficiency on the job,” says Julian.
All three HX-A series excavators arriving in New Zealand this summer offer two-way auxiliary piping, an adjustable auxiliary pressure monitor, and dozer blade float functionality to allow for smooth back grading (along with the option of a 4-way dozer blade). Meanwhile, their auto-shift travel speed system means the machines seamlessly transition between high and low travel speeds when needed.
The HX-A mini excavators are available with an optional factory-fitted hydraulic line to operate any hydraulic quick coupler, and the 3.8-tonne Hyundai HX35AZ can also be fitted with an optional additional counterweight for increased stability when handling heavier loads.
New cylinder guards have now been fitted as standard to the boom, arm, and bucket to provide increased protection. They effectively shield the hydraulic cylinders from damage caused by debris and other external obstacles, reducing the risk of downtime and repairs.
Designed with durability in mind, the HX-A series excavators feature robust components and easy maintenance access. The tiltable cabin and streamlined cowl layout make servicing quick and hassle-free in order to maximise uptime. Naturally, Hyundai distributor Porter Equipment offers the same comprehensive in-field back-up service and support for the mini excavator range as any machine owner can expect.
“The key thing with Hyundai is that they don’t compromise on quality, regardless of the price,” Julian concludes. “These might be the smallest excavators that they build, but across the board, they offer the same durability, comfort, ease-of-use and comprehensive back-up support that any larger machine enjoys. They’re going to change the game for a lot of our customers.”
