Mikasa battery-powered compactors

Youngman Richardson’s new Mikasa battery range has been designed to provide sustainable solutions for users of compactors and rammers

Mikasa has introduced a new range of battery-powered compactors designed to meet the growing call for eco-friendly construction equipment options. The models — which represent a significant step forward in compaction technology — consist of a forward plate compactor, a reversible plate compactor, and a trench rammer. They meet the criteria for performance, easy handling, and durability and also provide zero-emission alternatives.

“As New Zealand’s construction industry is being transformed into a greener way of operating, Mikasa has been developing its range to keep pace with sector requirements,” says Youngman Richardson sales director, Phil Fairfield.

“This range of plate compactors and rammer is now available in response to a demand for zero-emissions with battery-powered options,” says Phil.

“We unveiled the new range at the recent HIANZ and CCNZ conferences and were encouraged by the enthusiastic reaction we received from the many delegates in attendance. These new models offer both performance and environmental benefits suitable for a variety of construction and landscaping applications”.

Manufactured in Japan and distributed by Youngman Richardson the three models are MVCe60VAS Forward Plate Battery Compactor, MVHeR60 Reversible Plate Battery Compactor, and MTe55 Trench Battery Rammer.

This machine is designed to move forward in a straight line and is perfect for medium to high compaction work such as compacting and levelling soil and sand where operators may be working for many hours on end. With zero emissions, reduced noise, and lower vibration levels, the MVCe60VAS Forward Plate Battery Compactor is ideal for environmentally sensitive areas and suitable for tasks in urban areas or enclosed spaces where noise and emissions are a concern.

Mikasa units come with a Vibrating Absorbing System to lessen impact on the operator from hand/arm vibration.

At 88kg, the model is equipped with a Honda eGX motor and delivers a centrifugal force of 10.1kN. A plate size of 570mm x 350mm makes it suitable for small- to medium-sized compaction tasks.

With the unit being light in weight, the MVCe60VAS Forward Plate Battery Compactor can be ideal for landscaping, paving, narrow trench work, as well as finishing asphalt and is used for roading embankments, pipelines, and cable installation work.

Models within the MVC series also feature a water tank as optional or standard and a wheel kit that can be easily folded up within the handlebar frame when not in use.

The reversible function provides the MVHeR60 Reversible Plate Battery Compactor with increased manoeuvrability, making it efficient for compacting in tight spaces or around obstacles. In addition to environmental advantages, the reversible design enhances versatility and efficiency on the job site, reducing the time required for compaction.

The 81kg reversible plate compactor also features the Honda GXE2.0 motor, delivering up to 12kN with a 480mm x 350mm plate size.

With the capability of compacting in both directions, the MVHeR60 Reversible Plate Battery Compactor would typically be used in civil engineering and construction for concrete preparation, harder basecourse materials, roading applications, and drainage.

The on-the-spot compaction with full variable speed allows for slow travel and/or a neutral position that makes operating the compactor a breeze, manoeuvring in tight spaces and around obstacles.

The wider Mikasa Reverser range models are available with a COMPASS compaction meter for continuous compaction control. The technology helps improve efficiency and maximises productivity with an easy-to-use series of LED lights that indicate the progress made with each machine pass.

The machines also have multiple anti-vibration points and a sturdy lifting frame. Highly effective hydraulic systems that eliminate old-fashioned cables and linkages set them apart from the competition for reduced servicing and downtime.

MTE55 trench battery rammer

The MTe55 Trench Battery Rammer offers high-impact energy with precise control and can be perfect for compacting cohesive soils in trench applications.

Powered by the Honda GXE2.0 motor, the 75kg MTe55 delivers an impact force of 10.8kN and comes with a 265mm x 340mm plate. The battery-powered design eliminates emissions and reduces noise, making it particularly useful for work in confined areas or indoor spaces.

Since 1989, New Zealand distributor Youngman Richardson has been instrumental in growing the local market by being able to offer a wide range of Mikasa products, exceptional aftersales service, and genuine parts.

A global brand synonymous with quality and reliability with over 55 years of export experience, Mikasa has truly earned its reputation as one of the country’s foremost providers of compaction equipment.

Mikasa compaction equipment provides top-line performance, easy handling, and durability, which the brand says is due to a continuous research and development programme, along with encouraging new initiatives in combination with its partners worldwide.

At the same time, the company says it strives to provide ongoing improvements and increased reliability to its existing products to meet today’s changing needs and are just some of the reasons why owners and end users rely on Mikasa for a wide range of projects.

Ideally suited for civil engineering, construction, drainage contractors, and the hire and rental industry, Mikasa says they offer among other things high compaction capacity and travel speeds.
