Since launching its first electric machines only a few months ago, JCB says they have been inundated with enquiries and confirmed orders placed

More than 50 new fully electric mini excavators have already been delivered by JCB and many more are currently on the production line and in the order books according to JCB UK.

The 19C-1E models, which are JCB’s first-ever electric diggers, are now coming off the assembly line at JCB Compact Products in Cheadle, Staffordshire, with orders rolling in from customers from across Europe and North America, the company says.

The machine is said to be five-times quieter than its diesel counterpart and can be fully charged in just under two hours.

JCB says it expects the model to be a big hit with companies working inside buildings and in emissions and noise-sensitive inner-city areas.

Fully charged, the 19C-1E is designed to put in a typical full day’s shift, with research highlighting that over the first five years, charging costs would be 50% cheaper and servicing 70% lower, compared with a diesel-powered model.

"I’m delighted that the model is now in full production after successful feedback from customers in many key markets during the evaluation stage," says JCB chief innovation officer Tim Burnhope.
