SDLG showcased the E660F-EX, a concept electric compact excavator, at Bauma China 2018

The concept excavator is SDLG’s first foray into electromobility and is not available commercially.

"The E660F-EX is SDLG’s first machine to utilise electric motors," Wang Xiaohui, general manager of SDLG Import and Export Company, says. "The concept machine demonstrates SDLG’s dedication towards electromobility.

"We are investing in research and construction equipment that will produce lower emissions, reduced noise levels, and will be more energy efficient without compromising machine performance."

The six-tonne capacity E660F-EX is based on the current E660FL compact excavator, which has a bucket capacity of 0.2 cubic metres, maximum excavation force of 40kN, and swing speed of 10r/min. To make the machine electric, the combustion engine was replaced by a 30kWh lithium battery and switched reluctance electric motor.

The concept E660F-EX can be recharged by plugging into a power grid or the vehicle-charging facilities that are already available in China. A full recharge takes between three to four hours on a 32amp grid. With a dedicated grid, the E660F-EX could be recharged within one hour.

"On a full charge, the E660F-EX can perform continuous digging for about three hours," Wang says. In addition to the concept electric excavator, SDLG showcased a range of its construction equipment during the four-day event.

"Bauma China was a great opportunity for SDLG to showcase our reliable construction equipment that helps to construct a quality future," Wang says. "Looking ahead, SDLG will continue to develop and test electromobility products in different sizes as we work towards building a better future with our customers."
