Kiwi EV for Australian mines

An innovative new product made its debut at EVWorld New Zealand in early September 2017

The Voltra is a fully electric underground mine utility vehicle designed and built for Autoline Australia by New Zealand specialist heavy electric vehicle manufacturer, Zero Emission Vehicles (ZEV).

Voltra is a battery-powered electric Landcruiser and the first of its kind in Australasia. It’s been designed primarily for the underground mining industry where producing emissions in a confined space can be hazardous.

While the primary role of the Voltra is for mine to surface staff transportation and logistics, the vehicle is capable of being charged underground without needing to return to the surface for refuelling.

A web portal with integrated Telemetry, on-board GPS receiver, cellular modem, and secure cloud integration provides comprehensive real-time location, status, and performance communication for each vehicle.

To maximise energy efficiency, operator comfort, and operator safety, ZEV has developed a unique multi-channel air-conditioning system combined with on-demand power steering.

ZEV says much of what’s seen on the Voltra can also be found on their other vehicles, including the ZEV 14000 battery electric rubbish compacting truck and the ZEV 22000—a concept 110-tonne electric haul truck designed specifically for underground mining operations.
