A new app that helps civil and forestry contractors select the right hose and fittings to repair and maintain their hydraulic hoses on-site has been launched by BOA Hydraulics
Brothers Simon and Greg Boakes, founders of BOA Hydraulics, provide contractors with the ability to repair and maintain their own hydraulic hoses, using cutting and crimping machines combined with hose and fittings, in a workshop or container set-up.
They recently introduced the BOApod (patent-pending)—a mobile hose repair facility built into a trailer unit that provides contractors what they need to get machines back up and running.
To complement the launch of the BOApod, the company has introduced the first phase of the BOAhub—a multi-platform, multi-device application that allows users to select and build their own hoses, order hydraulic hose and fittings online, and accurately manage inventory. It’s available on Apple and Android phones and tablets as well as a web app.
A key feature of the BOAhub is the innovative hosemaker, which begins with selecting the ideal hose type, hose group, and hose diameter. Once selected, users can choose the correct fitting by selecting the angle required.
The thread is then physically measured to obtain the correct internal diameter measurement, which allows the user to select from a list of available threads, intelligently filtered to fit the hose being made. All steps are supported by the online ‘help’ feature.
As hoses are designed, users create a database of hose recipes, which contributes to making preventative maintenance easy.
Another feature of the BOAhub app is the mobile ‘scan to order’. Every BOA set-up has labelled bins for users to reorder inventory and add parts to hose assemblies by scanning the labels. All key features work offline and update as soon as users are back in coverage.
The next phase offers innovative features, such as the ability to match a hose assembly against an asset, along with an intelligent system of overlaying users asset images with a key that hose recipes can be matched to. This is all part of building a helpful database of your asset recipes locked against a specific make and model. Keep an eye out for these developments.
