BAIC's X55 and B30 SUVs took centre stage at Fieldays this year, marking the brand's first real push into NZ's mid-sized SUV market
Chinese vehicle brand BAIC used Fieldays to highlight its growing presence in the New Zealand market, with the recently launched X55 and B30 SUVs taking centre stage on the Auto Distribution Holdings stand.
Introduced to New Zealand earlier this year, the mid-sized SUVs represent BAIC’s initial push into a highly competitive segment dominated by established Japanese, Korean and European brands. The company reported increasing interest in both models since their arrival in February.
The X55 is positioned as a conventional mid-sized SUV and is currently offered in Premium Plus specification. The B30, meanwhile, is available in several variants, including the B30 Premium Adventure Hybrid All-Wheel Drive, which combines hybrid power with all-wheel-drive capability.
While BAIC remains a relatively new name for many New Zealand buyers, the brand is part of one of China’s largest automotive manufacturing groups and is seeking to expand its dealer and service network across the country. Auto Distribution Holdings confirmed that three additional BAIC dealerships are expected to open in the near future, increasing the national network from eight to eleven locations.
Looking ahead, BAIC plans to broaden its local line-up with the introduction of the X55 Hybrid later this year, adding another electrified option to its SUV range.
