Special feature: 1991 Volvo NL12

Based in Canterbury, Truck Restore NZ carries out the complete restoration of trucks

Recently, they listed a pristine 1991 Volvo NL12 for sale, but more on that shortly.

The business offers the complete restoration of trucks, from ‘body on chassis work’, where repairs and painting are carried out as required, through to ‘complete body-off restoration’ projects, where they strip down the vehicle, remove the cab, and restore a customer’s truck to its former glory.

“We are I-Car trained and qualified — New Zealand’s recognised training for the autobody repair industry,” says business owner Joff Windsor.

Back to the Volvo NL12 mentioned earlier.

“This truck was one of our own projects that we purchased in May 2018 from Palmerston North,” says Joff.

“We rebuilt the whole engine — piston rings, sleeves, heads, and line-bored the block.

“We then installed a new injector pump, new oil pump, new alternator, new starter, new intercooler, and radiator.”

Following on from the engine work, Joff and his team replaced all steering components and tie rod ends and then installed new brake drums and shoes.

“We also put in new wheel bearings and replaced the rear suspension bushes, as well as repairing all the rust,” says Joff.

“The truck is 100% mechanically sound and nothing else needs to be done other than spraying in a colour of your choice for an additional $10,000 plus GST, if that’s something you want.”

The truck is located in Canterbury and the full price (not including the cost of a colour change) is $100,000 plus GST.
