Volvo High-lift loader

Video: We visited Matthews Logging Ltd to check out the new Volvo High-lift loader in action

The L180G High-lift loader runs Volvo’s 13-litre, six-cylinder, turbo-charged, off-highway diesel engine. With high torque at low engine speeds, this engine definitely suits this type of machine.

The cab is a comfortable place to spend a shift, incorporating CDC – an alternative steering system that consists of a joystick located on the left-hand side of the seat.

As far as log lifting goes, the high-lift boom has been re-worked so it now features a more curved design. The 360-degree rotating grapple is rated an 8.5-tonne lift but is capable of more if required, and logs can be stacked to a maximum height of 5.8 metres (with closed grapple), thus saving a lot of space around the yard.
