Hidromek company owner visits job sites

It’s not too often that on-the-ground small contractors get to meet the person who heads the business they purchase their machinery from, but that is just what happened when Hidromek company co-owner and vice chairman Ahmet Bozkurt paid a quick visit to New Zealand during February.

Ahmet and his team spent the majority of their time with New Zealand Hidromek distributors Magnum Equipment, heading out with them to visit contractors and gain a better understanding of local conditions.

"One thing the visitors got was some knowledge about the conditions here in New Zealand," says Magnum Equipment director Liam Field. "It’s quite different to their home ground of Turkey, where rock is predominant and their machines are built to handle that material, which means we benefit by having solidly-made machines."

One Auckland job site where Ahmet and his entourage visited was where contractors WBL Civil Landscapes were using a recently-purchased 14-tonne Hidromek HMK140LC excavator, taking the opportunity to obtain feedback directly from the machine users.

"It was really quite cool to meet the person who owns the company and who wanted feedback on how they could make their machinery more user friendly," says Brook Harland general manager of WBL Civil.

"For someone at the head of a very large business, he was a very humble guy and very easy to talk to, wanting to know the positives and negatives we had found with the machine."

The visitors spent around 24 hours on the ground locally before travelling across to Australia. They say their intention is to return for National Agricultural Fieldays® in June.
